Silver
Silver’s most alluring characteristic is its beautifully reflective surface, one of the brightest of any metal. It is durable enough for everyday wear and refreshingly affordable, with one honest caveat: it tarnishes over time.
Sterling, not pure
Pure silver is soft and malleable, so nearly all silver jewellery is sterling silver: 92.5% silver alloyed with 7.5% copper for strength and durability. Look for the sterling standard when you buy.
Where silver shines
Silver has one of the most reflective surfaces of any metal, is slightly harder than gold, and is widely available, which keeps it very affordable. That makes it a practical, beautiful choice for fashion pieces and everyday jewellery.
Buyer’s tip
Silver suits fashion jewellery well; sterling gives you the strength pure silver lacks. For fine jewellery, engagement rings, pieces meant to be worn for decades and passed down, we steer you to gold or platinum instead: silver’s tarnish and softer wear don’t belong on a ring that matters that much. (It’s also why we don’t resize silver rings at the workshop.)
