Ring resizing, done properly

Sized smaller from $150 or larger from $225, at our own bench in the Dymocks Building on George Street. Most rings take 7 to 10 working days, or 30 to 45 minutes with while-you-wait service. Every resize is done in-house by Bobby Cao, our master jeweller of 35+ years, and your stone is verified under the microscope with you, before and after the work.

How it works

Measured, resized, checked.

  1. Measured and assessed

Your finger is measured properly and the ring examined in hand. Bobby checks the design, the stones and the metal before we quote. Quoting is free and obligation-free.

  2. Resized at our bench

The ring is resized on the premises, it never leaves the building. Many resizes are done while you wait, in about 30 to 45 minutes.

  3. Checked and returned

Stones are verified with you under the microscope before and after the work, and the join is finished so you can’t see where it was. Resizing carries a one-year warranty.

Straight answers

Not every ring should be resized

Tension settings and some patterned or fully stone-set bands can’t be resized without weakening the ring. Silver rings we don’t resize at all. If your ring is one of these, we’ll tell you before any work starts, and talk through what would actually protect it.

In their words

Resizing, reviewed

I had seven rings resized and one ring repaired and Bobby did a wonderful job. He is very considered and honest in his assessment, and he will tell you if something is impossible or difficult so that you can choose what to do. The rings are beautiful and fit perfectly.

We had complete peace of mind as they put the ring under the microscope as soon as we arrived, so we could see and take a note of the GIA bar code on the stone. After the resizing, they put it back under the microscope so we could see the same bar code again. The workmanship was first class, you would never know it had been resized.

I got my ring resized and it was done perfectly by Bobby! The reassurance that my diamond was still the same one made me feel at ease. Highly recommend!

Ring resizing questions

How much does it cost to resize a ring in Sydney?

At our Sydney CBD studio, resizing smaller starts from $150 and resizing larger from $225. The exact price depends on the metal, the width of the band and how many sizes the ring needs to move. Quoting is free, and no work starts until you’ve agreed to the quote.

How long does ring resizing take?

While-you-wait service usually takes 30 to 45 minutes at the studio, with a $95 per-ring express fee for same-day sizing. Standard drop-off service is around 7 to 10 working days. Either way, the ring is resized at our own bench, it never leaves the premises.

Is it better to size a ring up or down?

Neither is better, they are different jobs. Sizing down removes a small section of the band and rejoins it; sizing up stretches the band slightly or adds metal, which is why it costs more. Wedding bands can often move up to one size without cutting at all. Bobby will recommend the safest approach for your ring.

Will I be able to see where the ring was resized?

No. The join is soldered or laser welded, then filed, polished and finished so the resize is invisible. Platinum resizing is a specialty of ours, with no join marks. White gold rings are rhodium plated after resizing so the colour is even all the way around.

Can every ring be resized?

Most can, including many diamond eternity rings. Some designs, like tension settings and certain patterned or fully stone-set bands, can’t be resized without weakening the ring. That’s why Bobby assesses every ring in hand before we quote, and tells you honestly, including when the right answer is not to do the work.

Do you resize silver rings?

No. We resize gold and platinum rings only. Silver behaves differently under heat and the result doesn’t meet the standard we’re prepared to put our name on, so we’ll tell you that up front rather than take the job.

How do I know my diamond wasn’t swapped during resizing?

Before we take your ring in, we show you the stone under the microscope and note its inclusions and any GIA laser inscription with you. At pickup you check the same stone under the microscope again. It’s your ring, and you should never have to take that on faith.

Do I need an appointment for ring resizing?

Walk-ins are welcome for assessment and quoting. For while-you-wait or same-day resizing we ask you to book, so the jeweller can reserve the time for your ring. We’re on Level 9 of the Dymocks Building, 428 George Street, Sydney CBD.
